Don Farmer, CNN pioneer and former Naples Daily News columnist, dies at 82
An original CNN anchor and longtime Naples Daily News columnist has died.
Don Farmer, 82, worked for decades as a broadcast journalist for ABC, NBC, CNN and WSB-TV in Atlanta.
He died Wednesday at Bentley Village in North Naples.
CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer reported Farmer's death on air Thursday night.
Farmer and his wife of 49 years, Chris Curle, who also worked on air for CNN in its early years, in 1997 moved to Southwest Florida.
She survives him.
Curle told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he died from complications related to progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare neurological brain disorder.
“Dad stayed curious and engaged nearly to the very end,” his son, Justin Farmer, an anchor at WSB-TV Atlanta, wrote on Facebook.
“He was born with an abundance of curiosity, integrity and wit.”
